Start with the needed outcome
A computer used for email and forms has different requirements from one used for demanding business or creative work. The decision should begin with the task, not the newest equipment.
Count the whole cost
Consider the repair, expected remaining life, repeated downtime, setup of a replacement, data transfer, and any accessories that may need to change.
Protect data either way
Before a major repair or replacement, verify important files. A declining computer can still contain the only copy of valuable information.
